Architecture and technical construction

The Zi:RAK Essential design is based on a hybrid aluminum and fiberglass composite structure that guarantees exceptional rigidity-to-weight ratio. Topeak engineers developed reinforced joints that completely eliminate parasitic vibrations, even on rough terrain with heavy loads. The rack integrates standard 64 mm mounts for additional accessories, integrated bottle cage mounts (compatible with VersaCage and locks), and a 50 mm spacing rear light mount approved for the Rack RedLite StVZO light. Two types of mounting arms are supplied to ensure optimal compatibility with all frame geometries.

• Frame eyelet mounting: Classic and secure attachment directly to the frame's threaded anchor points, offering maximum stability and perfect integration for equipped frames
• Quick-Mount velcro strap mounting: Tool-free installation on seatstays, quick and universal solution allowing solid attachment on frames without eyelets — not recommended for carbon frames
• Thru-axle mounting (optional): Most visually streamlined system, compatible with three thread pitches (12×1.0, 1.5, 1.75 mm) and SRAM UDH option, mandatory for carbon frames — axle sold separately

Luggage compatibility and extensions

The Zi:RAK Essential is designed as an expandable modular platform. The integrated side rails directly accommodate Topeak Pannier DryBag panniers and other standard panniers. To maximize carrying capacity, the rack combines perfectly with the U-Shell Carrier (TA2422) and the U-Shell DryBag 10 liters (TC5105B), offering additional storage space ideal for sleeping bags or bivouac tents. The side mounts also accept QR Fork DryBag systems and universal VersaCage cages.

Carbon frame specifications

Owners of carbon frame bikes must imperatively use the optional thru-axle mounting system. Quick-Mount velcro straps are not recommended on carbon to avoid any risk of damage to the seatstays.
