Bionol is the next-generation hydraulic brake fluid for demanding and eco-conscious cyclists. Developed and manufactured in Germany by Danico Biotech and distributed exclusively by Trickstuff, this plant-based fluid (rapeseed and sunflower oil) pushes the limits of performance while respecting the environment. With a boiling point reaching up to 420°C, it outperforms all conventional mineral oils and even DOT 5.1, guaranteeing consistent and reliable braking on the most demanding descents.
Technical Highlights
- Exceptional boiling point: 300°C minimum, up to 420°C depending on conditions — far superior to Shimano mineral oils (~280°C) and Magura (~120°C), and even DOT 5.1.
- Ultra-low viscosity: allows smooth circulation in the hydraulic circuit for consistent lever feel, precise modulation and stable bite point.
- Remarkable thermal stability: maintains viscosity and incompressibility over a very wide temperature range, from -15°C to over 360°C.
- Total incompressibility: transfers 100% of the force from the lever to the caliper, without loss or sponginess, even under extreme stress.
- 100% biodegradable and non-toxic: based on rapeseed and sunflower, with no hazard classification, does not attack varnishes or skin, and non-polluting to water.
- Low evaporation: ensures increased durability and extended maintenance intervals.
Compatibility and Use
Bionol is designed for all hydraulic disc brakes operating with mineral oil: Shimano, Magura, Tektro, recent Formula Cura, mineral oil Hayes, and of course all Trickstuff brakes (Piccola, Direttissima, Maxima). Trickstuff has tested Bionol's compatibility with mineral oils from other manufacturers, with excellent field feedback.
WARNING: Bionol is INCOMPATIBLE with braking systems using DOT fluid (SRAM, Avid, Hope, certain Formula and Hayes). Never mix Bionol with DOT or risk irreversible damage to the braking system.
Performance in Extreme Conditions
Bionol is particularly suited to intensive use: long descents in enduro or DH mountain biking, loaded alpine crossings, MTB marathons, high-speed e-bikes. Bicycle calipers and rotors being ultra-light, they have low thermal capacity — hence the increased risk of vapor bubble formation and sudden failure with conventional fluids. Bionol's exceptional boiling range eliminates this risk and ensures consistent, powerful and modulable braking, even after repeated or prolonged braking.
Eco-Responsibility and Safety
Unlike petroleum-based mineral oils and glycol-based DOT fluids (hygroscopic and polluting), Bionol is derived from renewable plant resources, totally biodegradable, with no toxic classification, and non-hazardous to aquatic environments. It does not corrode paints, does not burn the skin and can even be used safely in sensitive environments. A responsible choice without compromising performance.
Origin and Development
Bionol is developed and produced in Germany by Danico Biotech, a recognized manufacturer of bio-high-performance lubricants for competitive cycling (chain oil, fork oil, greases). Danico products are regularly tested in World Cup events and on the most demanding courses around the globe. Trickstuff ensures the exclusive distribution of Bionol and the associated technical advice.
