The Brake Authority Burly BA4031B brake pads represent the excellence of MTB braking made in France for Shimano XTR, Saint, XT, Deore LX and SLX calipers from the 2003-2009 generations. Designed in high-performance sintered metal with exclusive NoNitech technology (without toxic nickel), these pads offer exceptional longevity and maximum disc respect. Pre-bedded at the factory and optimized for E-BIKEs, they deliver powerful, progressive and consistent braking from XC to Enduro, in all weather conditions.
The Brake Authority legacy: performance and respect
Born in 2008 from the collaboration between Fabien Barel (triple downhill world champion) and a French manufacturer specialized in railway, automotive and motorcycle braking, Brake Authority embodies the union of sporting excellence and industrial expertise. Each pad benefits from intensive field testing and ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified production in Europe, guaranteeing high-level performance and reduced environmental impact. The Tribe Sport Group dedicates 1% of its annual turnover to environmental preservation and offers a used brake pad recycling program.
Technical highlights of Burly pads
- High-density sintered metal: compound obtained by sintering metal powders and ceramic fibers, offering exceptional resistance to heat (up to 600°C) and long braking periods.
- Exclusive NoNitech technology: nickel-free formulation, eliminating a highly toxic mineral for humans and the environment, while preserving performance.
- Remarkable longevity: significantly longer lifespan than organic pads thanks to the hardness of the sintered material, reducing maintenance frequency.
- Excellent disc respect: balanced formulation limiting premature disc wear despite the metallic nature of the compound.
- Progressive and controllable braking: excellent proportionality between lever effort and delivered power, facilitating precision in technical riding.
- All-terrain performance: high bite and power on dry and wet ground, ideal for rides in wet or muddy weather.
- Pre-bedded at the factory: optimal performance from the first braking, without a long break-in period on the trail.
- E-BIKE optimization: formulation adapted to the increased constraints of electric bikes (higher weight, high speeds).
Extended Shimano and TRP compatibility
These pads fit a wide range of Shimano calipers from 2003 to 2009, covering high-end and mid-range series:
- Shimano XTR: BR-M965, BR-M966, BR-M975, BR-M975P
- Shimano Saint: BR-M800 (2004-2007)
- Shimano Deore XT: BR-M765, BR-M775, BR-M965, BR-M966, BR-M975
- Shimano LX: BR-M585, BR-M655, BR-M765, BR-M800, BR-M975, BR-T605
- Shimano Deore: BR-M535, BR-M545, BR-M595, BR-M596
- Shimano Hone: BR-M601
- Shimano SLX: BR-M665 (2009)
- Shimano Alfine: S500, S501, R505
- TRP: Dash, Dash Carbon
Use and riding profile
Burly pads (type B) are specifically developed for recreational and competition use in Cross-Country, All-Mountain and Enduro. Their formulation offers an ideal compromise between immediate power, temperature consistency and longevity. Unlike organic pads that struggle with long and repeated braking, sintered metal maintains stable performance even during committed descents or demanding pyramid rides. For DH or Freeride riders seeking even more aggressive bite, Brake Authority offers Attack (type A) and Ceramic (type C) versions.
Environmental commitment and responsible manufacturing
- French production: pads manufactured in France in ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified factories, reducing the carbon footprint linked to transport.
- 100% recyclable packaging: box made of recycled and fully recyclable cardboard, in a zero-waste approach.
- Recycling program: used pads can be returned to Brake Authority headquarters for material recycling.
- 1% for the environment: the South Shore Bicycles group (parent company) dedicates 1% of its turnover to environmental preservation actions.
- NoNitech technology: total absence of nickel, lead and asbestos, in compliance with the strictest European requirements.
Installation and maintenance
Supplied pre-bedded, these pads deliver optimal performance from the first braking, significantly reducing the usual break-in phase. For proper installation, remove the old pair, clean the caliper, insert the new pads and readjust the caliper position if necessary. When changing compound type (switching from organic to metal or vice versa), it is strongly recommended to also replace the discs, as bedding makes the disc compatible only with the type of compound used. Regularly check the compound thickness: replacement is necessary when less than 1 mm of material remains.
