The Galfer Shark EVO 223mm Kashima Brake Rotor embodies excellence in high-performance MTB braking. First and only rotor on the market with authentic Kashima coating, this evolution of the legendary Shark 2022 combines exceptional braking power, outstanding thermal stability and premium aesthetics. Designed specifically for Gravity disciplines – Enduro, Downhill and E-MTB – this two-piece rotor pushes the limits of modern braking thanks to its widened braking track, aerospace aluminum core and optimized Shark fins for maximum heat dissipation.
Technical Overview
The Shark EVO 223mm adopts a semi-floating two-piece construction combining a high-carbon stainless steel braking track and a 5mm thick CNC-machined 7075-T6 alloy core. The 8mm hollow aluminum rivets ensure optimal transmission of braking forces while absorbing vibrations. The 2mm thick braking track offers an increased contact surface, guaranteeing consistent power and better compatibility with all pads on the market, including large Magura-type pads.
Exclusive Kashima coating: performance and prestige
- World exclusive: Galfer is the only manufacturer to offer an MTB brake rotor with original Kashima treatment, a technology previously reserved for high-end Fox forks and shocks
- Enhanced protection: The Kashima hard anodized oxide layer significantly increases wear and scratch resistance of the aluminum core exposed to extreme conditions
- Premium aesthetics: The characteristic golden finish allows harmonious mounting with Kashima suspension components
- Increased durability: The treatment protects the integrity and performance of the aluminum core over the long term
Thermal management and braking performance
- Evolved Shark fins: More numerous and optimized, the characteristic internal fins increase the thermal exchange surface and efficiently evacuate heat away from the caliper
- Heat dissipation holes: Redesigned perforation geometry to maximize cooling while maintaining structural rigidity
- Fade reduction: The design almost totally eliminates loss of braking power during prolonged descents or repeated intensive braking
- Thermal stability: Maintains a constant friction point even under high temperature, steep gradients, sustained speed and significant mass (E-bike)
- System protection: Lowered operating temperature preserves caliper seals and extends pad life
Rigidity and machining precision
The aerospace-grade 7075-T6 aluminum core is fully CNC-machined according to topological optimization that maximizes lateral rigidity while minimizing weight. This coplanar design – core and braking track perfectly aligned – guarantees exceptional stability and symmetrical pad wear thanks to balanced action of both pistons. The result: elimination of parasitic noise, absence of vibrations and progressive braking modulation for surgical control in all circumstances.
Compatibility and versatility
- Universal 6-bolt mounting: ISO standard 44mm BCD, compatible with all modern MTB hubs
- Caliper compatibility: Works with all MTB braking systems on the market without modification
- Pad compatibility: Widened braking surface suitable for all types and sizes of pads, including tall pads
- E-bike ready: Designed for installation of speed sensor magnets without compromising performance
- Direct replacement: Plug-and-play installation without necessary adaptation

Galfer heritage and innovation
Founded in Barcelona, Galfer has over 70 years of expertise in high-performance braking solutions, from motorcycle to bicycle. After the phenomenal success of the original Shark launched in 2022 – which became the undisputed reference in MTB braking – the Shark EVO presented at Eurobike 2025 and marketed in 2026 takes innovation to its peak. Entirely manufactured in Spain at the Granollers factory near Barcelona, each rotor benefits from demanding family craftsmanship and rigorous quality control, the result of decades of field feedback from professional Downhill, Enduro and E-MTB riders.
