The Hope Tech 4 EVO GR4 embodies the quintessence of modern gravity braking. Designed in Barnoldswick (UK) and manufactured entirely in Great Britain, this 4-piston hydraulic brake represents the most accomplished evolution of the legendary Tech 4 series. Intended for riders of DH, enduro, freeride and e-bike, it delivers maximum braking power without the slightest compromise, thanks to its oversized pistons (2x 18 mm + 2x 17 mm) offering 6% more power compared to the V4. The Black/Smoke colorway combines discretion and elegance, with smoked accents that highlight the refined CNC design of the monobloc caliper. This right hand (Right Hand) version is delivered without rotor, with standard black hose pre-bled and ready to ride.
EVO technical architecture: the new benchmark
GR4 monobloc caliper: CNC machined from solid, the 4 hybrid piston caliper (2x 18 mm and 2x 17 mm) provides the greatest braking power ever developed by Hope. Its increased rigidity and refined design (piston yokes reduced in width) improve compatibility with modern frames while maximizing force transfer. Compatible only with rotors 1.8 to 2.3 mm thick (incompatible with vented rotors) to guarantee optimal rigidity.
EVO master cylinder and lever: the new cam mechanism reduces lever dead stroke while preserving the legendary Hope feel and modulation. A second secondary guide bushing on the piston ensures perfectly straight movement and unmatched fluidity. The integrated bleed port on the master cylinder allows bleeding without removing the reservoir cover, eliminating risks of DOT 5.1 overflow. Tool-free reach and bite point adjustments. EVO lever with pronounced hook and honeycomb texture for maximum grip in extreme conditions.
Performance and power: 6% more, zero compromise
- Raw power: the enlarged pistons (compared to V4: 2x 18 + 2x 16 mm) generate a hydraulic ratio increased by 6%, placing the GR4 at the top of the gravity brake hierarchy alongside market benchmarks (Maven, XTR M9220).
- Modulation and progressiveness: despite its extreme power, the GR4 retains a light, progressive and perfectly controllable lever feel thanks to the new cam and the 9.5 mm piston in the master cylinder.
- Thermal management: hybrid pistons ensuring smooth movement and excellent heat dissipation. Wide pads (V4 format) improve lever consistency under intense demands.
- Controlled weight: 309 g with full-length hose, identical to the Tech 4 V4, 56 g less than SRAM Maven Ultimate and 16 g more than Shimano XTR M9220.
Available variants
The Hope Tech 4 EVO GR4 is offered in a wide choice of color combinations and configurations. Caliper and lever available in Black or Silver, combined with accents in Smoke, Blue, Orange, Purple, Red, Silver or Black. Each brake exists in Left Hand (front/left) and Right Hand (rear/right) versions. Braided hose (Braided) option available for additional charge. All EVO GR4 brakes are delivered without rotor, pre-bled and ready to install.
- Black/Smoke Right variant: EAN 5056850914658 / Ref. HOT4EG4-07-R_GR4 (present listing)
- Black/Smoke Left variant: EAN 5056850914641 / Ref. HOT4EG4-07-L_GR4
- Other colorways: Black/Blue, Black/Orange, Black/Purple, Black/Red, Black/Silver, Black/Black, Silver/Blue, Silver/Orange, Silver/Purple, Silver/Red, Silver/Silver, Silver/Smoke, Silver/Black — each available in Left and Right.
Simplified installation and maintenance
Each EVO GR4 brake is delivered pre-bled and pre-assembled with a standard black hose cut to general front/rear length (adaptable internally on request). Bleeding is now performed via the bleed port on the lever, eliminating the constraints of the open reservoir system. Direct compatibility with MatchMaker and SRAM AXS Pod mounts for a clean cockpit. The piston alignment system is simple and intuitive, guaranteeing drag-free operation from the first ride.
Hope Technology: British manufacturing excellence
Since 1989, Hope Technology has designed, machined, assembled and tested all of its bike components in its factory in Barnoldswick, Lancashire (UK). Founded by Ian Weatherill and Simon Sharp, former Rolls-Royce Aerospace engineers, the brand embodies precision CNC craftsmanship, passion for detail and commitment to local manufacturing. Hope exports to more than 40 countries and employs nearly 150 people. Every Hope product is manufactured from components machined on site — from pistons to olives and fittings — guaranteeing total traceability and quality. The Tech 4 EVO GR4 perpetuates this heritage of innovation and reliability, intended for riders who push the limits in all circumstances.
